No national or industry standard for a heavy equipment operator license exists. The term “heavy equipment operator license” is often used interchangeably with “heavy equipment operator certification”. In most cases, an operator is considered qualified if he/she can demonstrate competency of the equipment operation and an understanding of safe operation. If your company operates CMV’s and is registered with the FMCSA and has a USDOT number you are required to follow the regulations fully and are subject to audit, investigation, and compliance reviews. Failure to maintain a proper DOT Program can result in thee suspension or revocation of the companies authority to operate legally.
